Salt Nights: The Early Alarms + Tollcrane
The Indus Valley School Alumni Association is back with another celebration of Music – ‘The long and short of it’ – a collection of performances boasting support of a creative none other than Salt Arts! With a generous support from the JS Bank, Salt Arts will be curating and producing “Salt Nights” at IVS Alumni exhibit 2019, on 8th August at 7:30PM, inside the IVS campus. Recognizing Karachi’s growing enthusiasm and love for arts and expression, the show is kept free and open to the public.
A fantastic line up, packed with powerful performances:
From the Alumni musicians of IVS, there will be “The Early Alarms” featuring Architect-cum-musician Ali Alam and his band: Jason Anthony, Rahail Siddiqui and Miqdad Mohammed. A performance that is soothing, melodious – almost ecstatic – will comprise original soundtracks with Ali’s songwriting from his college days. The showstopper performance will be delivered by the show’s featured music for artwork, Tollcrane (aka Talha Asim Wynne), who’s music stays away from conventional classification and labels, as it spans from influences from Jazz and electronics – all comfortably tied together in linear fashion.

“Collaboration reigns supreme” at Salt Arts. And it is popular for maintaining high premium aesthetics on stage and in designing interactive and engaging live-shows, always complementing the flavor of performance and the artists playing. It will be a very worthwhile opportunity to come by and see for your self, how #SaltArts does its magic.
Who are the Salt Arts, Ali Alam and Tollcrane?
During his college days, Ali Alam came up with a band with his Indus Valley School mates, called ‘Ganda Banda and the 3D cats’. Later, he went onto playing guitar with one of Pakistan’s most popular bands “Strings”, on their Duur album tour. Ali Alam then joined the “Aunty Disco Project” and performed with them until 2012.
Also drawing from IVS alumni musicians, Talha Asim Waynne is a Pakistani musician who graduated from the 2014 Red Bull Music Academy, Tokyo and then worked as a guitarist with psych-rock outfit: Orangenoise. He also collaborated with Forever South, an electronic music collective in Karachi that complements his dance and indie interests.

So, IVS is all set to give you a musical night you’re bound to remember. By making possible a South Asian ensemble which believes in socially equalizing, gender-balanced and environmentally sustainable production practices, Salt Arts is hitting all the right nodes in reviving and revolutionizing the collective artistic spirit into a more informed, more responsible and more fun one.
