Karachi becomes home of PSL V - Ceremonies, matches, screenings and discounted treats!

After the resounding success of an extravagant opening ceremony, Karachi has won the hearts of millions from across the nation as home to HBL PSL V. The entire city is lit up and it is a sight to behold, from Jinnah International Airport to Avari Towers, from Malir Cantt to National Stadium, the city of lights is shining bright in the colors of PSL. Karachi’s welcome of PSL V with such strong fervor, excitement and enthusiasm shows that cricket is here to stay!

Story so far…

In the heart of Karachi, the fortress that National Stadium is, has hosted 4 nail-biting encounters. No doubt the PSL V opening ceremony set the stage right for the season, and the matches have lived up to the hype.

In the season opener, a contest that ebbed and flowed, the boys from the capital fell short against the Gladiators. With Azam Khan setting up the win for his side with a scintillating 59 off 33 balls and a man of the match performance by the youngster Mohammad Hasnain knocking four United batsmen, Ben cutting sealed the win with a thunderous six over long off.

If Quetta and Islamabad showed why they are the best of the best in PSL, the Kings and Zalmi were not to be left behind in giving the former a run (pun intended) for their money. A runs galore put up by Karachi’s Babar Azam and a superb bowling at the death by Umaid Asif put a royal seal on Karachi’s first victory of the season. This nail-biting contest could have gone either way since Zalmi captain Sammy was in no mood to throw in the towel yet. Unfortunately, his 30 off 20 balls and Livingstone’s power-packed hitting earning him 54 off 29 balls could still not do the job as Karachi won at home.

One player that can never be written off is Kamran Akmal. His power packed century just off 55 balls made light work of a modest target set by the Gladiators. What could have been an underwhelming match owing to the low score was quickly turned into a spectacle by the run machine Kamran Akmal.

Quetta Gladiators out-grafted Karachi Kings on last Sunday afternoon in a glamorous win by five wickets. The emerging talent of Azam and Hasnain once again worked their magic as they outshone the Kings at their home-ground to give Quetta the lead on top of the table.

Upcoming encounters

Archrivals Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars are all set to go head-to-head on the 12th of March as the National Stadium hopes to erupt in excitement and thrill. With the way the season has gone by so far, Babar Azam vs Shaheen Afridi is perhaps the most looked-forward to encounter in this match.

Next up we have the Sultan vs Zalmi. This promises to be a nail-biting contest too as the two teams collide on the 13th of March. Former Zalmi skipper Shahid Afridi will be one to watch out for as he walks down the pavilion to face Wahab Riaz.

Get ready to light up the city as the Kings face the boys from the capital in their bid to get their hands on the most-coveted trophy in T20 leagues. Don’t forget to tune in or better grab a seat at the stands as Luke Ronchi and Mohammad Aamir go head to head.

The last of the group matches welcomes Quetta vs Karachi as both plan to establish brand supremacy in this year’s PSL.
