Insha’Allah Democracy by Mo Naqvi: A Documentary
March 24th: 11:30AM-1:30PM
NYC based director Mo Naqvi’s groundbreaking documentary will be screened at Capri Cinema this Sunday. Previously shown at International Film Festivals and nominated for a variety of awards, the documentary is a satirical exploration of the effects of martial law in Pakistan.
With vivid video footage and riveting, first-hand accounts from insiders, the documentary illustrates a complex landscape of contradictions and corruption, ultimately demonstrating the original, core problem of Pakistan’s history with military dictatorships.
Mo Naqvi’s documentaries generally illuminate the all-encompassing conditions perpetually plaguing the country. Through the development of powerful characters going through profound personal journeys, he frames the socio-political challenges Pakistan faces with a hard-hitting and often chilling style.
The Movie Screening of Insha’Allah Democracy, in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Pakistan, will end with a Q&A session with the Emmy nominated director himself. Two short films – Ghungroo by Ali Rizviand Holy Gutter by Samid Ali – will precede the screening of Mo Naqvi’s documentary. Show up before noon to catch the screening of this compelling documentary feature a day after Pakistan Day.
