Its that time of the year again! Google for Startups is back with its Pakistan chapter, Startup Weekend Karachi Women 2019! Ever since its inception, The Nest I/O has been hosting Startup Weekend and welcoming the fresh ideas that all the budding entrepreneurs of Karachi have to offer. This will be the third time the incubator, in facilitation of Techstars, will be hosting the prestigious, Startup Weekend Women
Background of Google Startup Weekend
The global startup weekend program was born with the idea that under a right environment, a mere weekend’s amount of time can be used to construct a proper and viable business from scratch. Motivated people come together, build and launch a business, racing against a time span of 54 hours.
So, Startup Weekend is an immersion event – a unique experience where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs get a glimpse of what it means to launch a startup. Through Startup Weekend, entrepreneurs get a platform to share their ideas and form a diverse composition of teams.

The world has realized the potential of creating opportunities that are open for not only men, but for all genders. As times progressed, women around the world have conclusively dismissed the age-old sexist notion that women cannot perform well at workplaces. In Pakistan alike, women are doing wonders in all fields, from STEM to business, and are proving pivotal to our national growth. It is crucial that this growth is encouraged and avenues are created for women to come forward and showcase their talent and capabilities in whatever field they choose.
Startup Weekend Women aims to foster female entrepreneurship, and celebrate and facilitate the creation of women-owned businesses. It is a one of its kind initiative that invites women (and also some men) from all walks of life to come together in one space and pitch ideas, develop business models and show how in a very short time, a mere idea can be transformed into a potential company.
Startup Weekend Women inspires females to take up leadership roles in startup teams, and to connect more women to the resources and mentors available in startup communities. In just 54 hours, you will experience the highs, lows, fun, and pressure that make up life at a startup. As you learn how to create a real company, you’ll meet the very best mentors, investors, co-founders, and sponsors who are ready to help you get started.
So what kind of ideas can you pitch?
As the organizers say, “anything and everything”! Your idea can be your solution to a problem you face in your everyday life or it can even be a reworked model of an existing idea. It can be an idea passion for which you have developed over a long time or it can be an epiphany that struck you during the event!
And don’t worry if you do not have any business idea in mind, or a team, even on the day of the event. You can listen to the ideas that other participants share and choose to work on their teams. Hence, you are highly encouraged to come with an open mind and show willingness to interact with other members, join them and foster collaboration!
And if you already have got the ball rolling with an already functioning startup, this event will be a fantastic opportunity to get guidance from mentors, meet others who are interested in joining your team and get further validation on your business model!

So much does this all cost?
If you are a student, you pay PKR 2,500. If you’re an entrepreneur/professional, you pay PKR 3000.
But also keep in mind that, true to its aim, #SWWKhi19 is an all-inclusive. Provisions have been made to waiver the ticket price for a select few participants who are able to demonstrate a need for financial aid. To request a waiver, one will have to fill in required field in the registration form.
