GDG DevFest Karachi 2019 by GDG Kolachi
Brace yourselves all tech geeks, entrepreneurs and developers because the biggest Google tech conference, Google Developers Group (GDG) Development Festival (DevFest) is coming Karachi on November 23, 2019 at the JS Auditorium, IBA City campus, Karachi. The techfest is organized by GDG Kolachi and includes immersive session on everything innovative from speaker sessions, workshops, networking sessions and knowledge sharing showdowns. Before we explore on what is in the baggage, let’s give the ones who are new to this festival a brief intro of what exactly is the GDG.
What is Google Developers Group (GDG)?
So, basically a Google Developer Group is a group of likeminded tech developers who are interested in Google’s Developer Technology. However, Google Developers, in essence, is a Google’s site which provides software development tools and all the technical resources required for developing any kind of application. This technology includes everything from Android, Chrome, Drive and Google Cloud platforms to product application programming interface (APIs) like the Cast API, Maps API and YouTube API and AI Machine Learning. Google Developer Groups does not require you to pay anything for joining one. These groups are generally present in every city around the world run by volunteers who are usually young developers and experienced professionals.
So, what do you get by joining a GDG Community?
By joining a GDG Community, you will have the opportunity to meet the local developers who share similar interests in technology or could be working on a similar project like yours. This gives you a chance to share your knowledge and learn from other people’s experiences. And because these communities are global, you have the entire world full of tech developers at your disposal to learn form and grow.
Alright, what is a DevFest then?
Google Developers Fest (DevFest) are the primary tech events organized by the local Google Developers Group. These fests provide a great platform for developers, entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts to come together and get inspired from the latest technologies and innovative initiatives from none other than the biggest Tech Giant – Google!
So, who is leading this event in Karachi?
Since Devfests are organized and led by local Google Developer Group Community, GDG Kolachi guys are the ones organizing and leading this DevFest. GDG Kolachi is an open and volunteer tech geek community with a goal to create a space where the best industry experts from around the world connect with the Pakistani audience to boost development of IT in the country. GDG Kolachi creates exciting projects and shares experience about Google technologies with passion.
Alright, so what is in the meetup this year?
The focus of the event will be talks related to Google Technologies. The talks will try to cover the most important things like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and especially Women’s contribution in Machine Learning and in other fields of technology. Fourth Industry Revolution and entrepreneurship will also be discussed in general. There will also be speakers and experts coming to the event from all around Pakistan.
Fortunately, we got successful in sneaking details of a few guest speakers. So here we are presenting them to you.
Dr Sayeed Ghani
With over 12 years of industry experience, has his expertise is in Wireless and Mobile Communications. He is a B.S. from MIT and M.S. and PhD from Columbia University in Electrical Engineering, currently, as acting Executive Director of IBA Karachi. Dr Ghani has in the past also been a member of the Board of Governors of IBA, and served as interim Acting Dean & Director, IBA.
Aqsa Kausar
The First Female Google Developer Expert from Pakistan in Machine Learning, is passionate about technology, learning new things and sharing ideas with others. She strongly believes in the power of ideas to shape a better world and in that spirit actively contributes her knowledge through blogs, tech talks and workshops. She was also a participant at Google Singapore’s Machine Learning Train-the-Trainer session. She holds a BSEE and currently works for Red Buffer, a Machine Learning and AI software services company based out of Islamabad, Pakistan.
Waleed Arshad
One of the Founders of Flutter Pakistan, is a mobile technologist and a core developer. He has been part of IBM and TPS and is currently working on Flutter & Data Science at Karachi Electric. He regularly contributes to the community through Github, Medium articles, Tech Talks, and Tech Workshops.
Arbaz Pirwani
Is a software engineer working at Oraan. He is passionate about his work and has a deep interest in programming. He loves to explore new technologies and is currently working on Kotlin for his projects. He is a tech trainer and has given various training sessions on Android Development and became a part of Google Developers Group Karachi (GDG Kolachi) in 2018.
Khurram Naseem
Is a database architect who has been affiliated with the industry for over 20 years. He is currently working as a database architect at Careem. Mr Naseem is responsible for managing and scaling the Careem databases. During his tenure, he has scaled the core ride-hailing database from hundreds of megabytes to 10 terabytes.
Tafseer Ul Islam Siddiqui
Is a software engineer who has been affiliated with the industry for the past 14 years. He is currently working as Senior Director Engineering at Careem. Mr Tafseer is responsible for laying the building blocks for the Careem system, having written the first lines of code as the first engineer at the organization.
