AI Family Challenge Season 2 presents by Pakistan Science Club
Pakistan Science Club is organizing its second Artificial Intelligence (AI) family challenge, where under a catchy title of “Technovation Families”, family members will form teams and learn, play and create with concepts of AI technology. With the aid of educators, technologists, community leaders, childern along with their ammi, abbu, bhai, behen, chacha, chachi or whoever them call family – use AI to solve them problems they care about.
Pakistan Science Club has done something very unique and refreshing by amalgamating family activities with science, so they inspire to be problem solvers and bond together in the process. Your family knows and understands you, so why not prototype ideas together!
Why Technovation Families?

It is a common observation that technological development within the 21st century is moving in an unprecedented pace. And our problems and challenges of living in a modern society are also turning essentially unique. Our common approach is to turn to professionals, scientists and to different forms of workplaces. We should be opening new avenues of inspiration, and hence experiment with gathering ideas in family environments.
Families from all around the world should be able to play an active role in future innovation. According to a study, more than 65% of children will be having completely new jobs with robots that don’t even exist yet!
For the cause of competing with future, Technovation families program insist on,
- Build lifelong learner mindsets.
- College and career readiness for kids and their parents.
- Learn and create together.
Look at how a technovation initiative in India mobilized this idea:
Each child participant works with their parents to identify and define a problem and ideate solutions using AI rechnologoes. All these families then compete to gain entry to the AI world championship. With online tools, families can build machine learning models to recognize pictures, text and preferences.
There will be a total of 10 sessions, divided as follows,
- 4 lessons on “Foundational concepts”
- 2 lessons on “Ideation” (brainstorm and plan solution)
- 4 lessons on “Build invention”
Firstly you will have to submit a 3 minute video detailing your invention. You will also submit two to four pictures with small descriptive captions. Finally, you will also attach around six optional descriptions and answers to prompts.
The challenge will be hosted at the National Incubation Center at NED University. The program has a total of 10 sessions on 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th November 2019, each session from 3pm to 6pm. How have the previous AI World Championships been and what were the responses?
In the previous year, more than 7500 participants from 13 countries around the world participated in the program with approximately 200 AI inventions submitted to the Global Championship. 6 finalist winners were selected from Pakistan, USA, Bolivia, Spain, Palestine, and Uzbekistan. According to the program post-survey, 91% of parents believe their child has developed a sustained interest in AI. 84% of parents said they were more likely to take action to improve their community. 89% of parents believe their child is capable of creating an AI model in the future. 90% of parents believe they know the prerequisites for their child to pursue either an AI or STEM career.
