Taichi & Chi Gong: A Martial Arts Workshop

The ancient practices of martial arts have never solely been about perfecting fighting techniques and the ability to defend oneself from physical harm. A deeper component, fundamental to Kung Fu, is the process of personal development that leads to an all-encompassing balance.

Long time Martial Arts practitioners in Taichi (Wushu) use it as a medium to achieve a oneness of being – a perfect equilibrium of power, of the proverbial tiger and dragon, of yin and yang. It is as much an ancient Chinese martial art as it is a meditation system and a healing practice.

Chi Gong (Chi Kung) is a similarly meditative practice, focused on physical coordination, breathing techniques and deep stretching. It has been used for self-healing and as preventative medicine. ‘Chi’ is a reference to ‘Life Energy’, and ‘Gung/Kung’ means ‘Cultivation’.

Every Wednesday and Saturday at 5PM, from the 6th of March until the 25th of May, the T2F is hosting martial arts training workshops focused on the disciplines of Taichi and Chi Gong. These workshops facilitate a learning environment ideal for individuals of all ages. The holistic approach taken in their teaching makes them just as beneficial for children as they are for the elderly.

The instructor, Shifu Muhammad Munawwar Shamroz, is a highly regarded practitioner of both disciplines in Pakistan. He has trained three renowned masters: Chinese King Fu Master Zen Bo, Taichi and Chi Gong Master Chen Shun Hua of the esteemed Chen School of Taichi Chuan, and none other than Jackie Chan’s relative, Master Peter Chan. He has been teaching for the past 3 decades, and remains one of the senior most masters in Pakistan.

These martial arts workshops not only cover aspects of Self-Defence, but teach extensive healing techniques. They are about developing internal and external sources of power, and focus on mindfulness training, detoxification and personal longevity. In addition, the workshops will help you with weight loss and general fitness.
